I, like so many other Americans am in debt, and had denied it for years. I tried to do something about it 5 years ago - but it was difficult and I gave up. It started in College where I had signed so many promisary notes and borrowed so much money that having 5,000 of debt on a credit card didn't seem to be a big deal. Then it snowballed - I paid off my students loans and found that I was about 60,000 dollars in credit card debt. The feeling of hopelessness is overwhelming. I let this drag on while slowly paying it down. I now am 35,000 in debt - in a debt management program and having a difficult time with the budget I have. I sometimes dont have money for food or gas and end up walking to work and skipping meals....it is a horrible feeling. I should be totally out of debt in 5 years if i keep motivated but I am 37 years old and have nothing. I am so embarrassed I don't date anyone, and I now do not have a lot of scoial interaction...I did it to myself

Hi:
Welcome. I certainly understand where you are coming from. I am 36 and feel like I should be so much farther ahead than I am. Fortunately, it doesn't mater where you start..just where you finish. We may have gotten off to a late start, but the finish line is in reach. Don't let this obstacle keep you from living your best life. Get out there and meet people.Be grateful for what you have and don't feel like you can't enjoy your life until you are totally out of debt. Each day is a gift and should be viewed as one.
Hang in there, my friend.
