Hi my name is Dorothy from chicago and I am around $10,000 in debt.  I have liens and judgements against me and I owe more money than I earn. Starting in August I'm going to do something different I'm going to pay myself first before I pay anyone. How do you mean well instead of buying takeout I'm going to cook at home it will save me money and that's money I can put to the side. Instead of Mocha Lattes at some expensive place have to settle for Java at home. Are you in debt to. Do you want to try to get out of debt as well. would love to chat with other people who are in similar situations perhaps we can help each other out/

Welcome Dorothy...I'm glad you joined!

That's a great idea!  How has it been working out for you since August?  What kind of milestones have you reached?

That's one of the best ways to begin your journey.  Remember it is not going to be easy. It will take time, diligence and you must remain firm on your goal.  I was once where you are.  I decided that all of those trips to McDonald's and to the mall anything that was not necessary could be preventing me from being financially secure.  I was making a good salary.  Just not spending it properly.  Some other things you can consider:  Save all of the money you have left at the end of the day.  Your dollar bills and all of the coins is a good start.  Place them in an empty coffee can.  At the end of the week take the contents to the bank.  Save all pennies you find or have.  Place these in a can also, when the can is full, empty the contents into a bag and take them to your bank.  Most banks now have coin counters free for the clients.  If your does, take these and have them counted. When you get the receipt, deposit the total.  Eventually, this will probably become a game and you will discover other ways of saving.  The urge to save will then become a habit and you will find yourself wanting to save more and more.  Once you get to this point, you will be on the home stretch.  Good luck and I hope some of these ideas help!
