A couple of weeks ago my wife and I made a major cutback which was very difficult to do.

We cut our cable.

This was particularly difficult because without our cable we get nothing at all.  No channels, no TV.  Of course we can still watch DVD's, but sometimes we enjoyed just relaxing in front of some syndicated show at night.

But when we looked at our expenses, cable was over $100 per month, and right now we could certainly use that $100 towards better things (like getting rid of our medical debt).

So far the nights have been quiet for us, but we have found ourselves to be just a busy.  I am spending my time doing extra work, and she has been busy taking care of things that need attention (and making some extra money online as well).

Good for you. I hope that helps.

I  have gotten rid of cable too. I watch movies on Dvd and get news online.

We actually sold our wedding rings years ago.  We even made candles and sold them. (mostly to relatives smile  .)   Choices are hard to make, but in the end if we succeed in getting out of debt it is worth it.

You have to work harder if you have to pay a huge debt. I have seen people doing all kinds of things to pay there debt .

Nice choice smile

If you don't miss cable, then $100 is a great saving.

Can you get cable cheaper?  Maybe as a 'celebration' once you've paid down some of your debt, treat yourself to a smaller, cheaper package of channels?

The cutbacks you make should be sustainable.

Well done, a tough decision but it will allow you to focus on making more money to pay your debts off (as you are doing smile))

GOOD FOR YOU!!

It's disgusting what cable companies are getting away with charging these days. That's a huge monthly expense and in my opinion, one that can be done without.  But, hey... we all have our vises.

We have the smallest cable package we can get.  The only reason I think we are paying for it at all is because I need the cable for my computer work.  (No internet, no income for me.)  I've tried to reduce our cable costs, but our package with TV is actually less right now that just the cable costs would be.  That just goes to prove how much cable companies are ripping us off.

Oh we miss cable, but its also good for us to do things outside of watching TV.  Suddenly we find ourselves

- read more books
- play with our daughter
- and the most shocking thing...I've been talking to neighbors!

All in all we'll be glad to get cable back, but its nice to have the summer without a ton of TV.

Nice work!  $100/month can go a long way.
