I  have gotten rid of cable too. I watch movies on Dvd and get news online.

If you have netflix, did you know you can watch a few hours a month online in addition to your rentals? Last night we watched The Office (american version) so it kinda felt like we had cable for a while. AND Some websites, like NBC let you watch shows online. I just finished the Studio 60 series.

It's helping to fill the void.

That it can.

I agree with that.

I could do it if I had to, but I hope I don't have to.

I don't think that i could do it even though I dont watch tv like that. But I guess you are doing what you have to do when it comes to your debt. I'm trying but im not there yet.

i have trouble with giving my money away right now when it comes to my debt. I know it isn't good but at the same time i just can't afford to do it.

For years I never had cable.  I actually only had 2 channels on the TV.  Honestly, once you get used to it its fine.  I borrowed DVDs from the library, read a lot of books, worked on my cooking skills, wrote letters -- it was only when my husband moved in that I got cable to appease him.

Good for you for making a smart decision.  It'll be a hard adjustment at first, but you can have a lot of fun doing other things without the cable on.

Most providers offer a basic cable. I pay about $15 a month for local stations and about 20 more from Comcast. If I was paying $100 I would be going bonkers, and broke.

I know ABC and also NBC post shows online just a day after the episode.  If you can't get over the air reception where you are at (and some places can even get HDTV over the air) the internet is an option. Not to mention other movies or shows you can dig up online.

Congrats!  That's a huge cut!

Did you know a lot of the shows are on the internet the following day?

"Ugly Betty", "Dancing with the Stars", and "NCIS" (my favorite) are all posted after they air on abc.com and cbs.com . . . not quite the same as cuddling on the couch (-;  BUT it's still the show, and you can get full screen!

Ughh . . . I would probably get a lot more done without TV!
