Just got off the phone with the cable company.  I showed no mercy and told them I need to cut, cut, cut.  We got rid of our digital cable package.  I'll be bringing the digital box back tomorrow.  In return for agreeing to keep my basic cable, they agreed to knock $16 off my internet for the next six months.  So we are saving about $38 dollars per month.

Not entirely true because we had been running on a promotion up until this month.  Our bill will really only lower about $10 from what we were paying last month.

Somehow it doesn't feel so much like a success though.  tongue

Every little bit helps.  The important thing is that you are trying.   Good for you.

Good for you! Every little bit helps!

Great work!  It is amazing what persistence and being stubborn on the phone can do to bills...

For a while we would switch between account holders to take advantage of a 3 month promotion for cable internet. The difference would be $15 per month for 3 months until the promotion was over.  All it took was a quick trip to the cable office to change the account holder name.

I just did the same with my cell phone.  Wasn't much but now I'll try to do the cable as well.  It'll help.

its more than you had before, so good for you. I need to call my internet company... im paying a lot.

Wow . . . you negotiated with the cable company!  LOL I'm in AWE!!! Seriously!

Everytime I try to lower my bill I end up with a service charge or a 'new deal' that ends up costing me more!

So congrats on great negotiating! cool

Thanks for making me envious! I called my cable T.V. and Internet provider. I said are there any promotions, and the gal said a couple of different offers, saving some money. But then she said that it is for new customers only. I said how Is my account??? Is it in good standing?? She said "well yes! " "  I see you've been a client for 10 years."
Then I said surely I must be more important than a new customer. She agreed and my cable went from $15.95 to $9.95 for six months and DRUM ROLL PLEASE. My internet went from $45.99 to $29.99 for a year. She was going to $19.99 for six months, and I thought lets see if I can stretch this. I asked for a year at $29.99 and she said no problem. Thats a few more greenbacks headed to the debt reduction cause.

I lowered my cable bill as well and it turned out to be a major savings. It was one of the wisest household budget decisions I ever made.

I think you made the right decision. You can now sleep well at night because you have nothing to worry.
