Today my father officially joined the "cause" of eliminating the family debt. For a few months it has been just my Mom and I, and it is a big victory that my father has succumbed to the pressure/seduction of getting out of debt. He's even gone as far as *gasp* talking about money and seeing how long it would take him to pay off his debts!
Who do you have in your inner cirlce of friends and family that are supporting or participating in your fight against debt? Do any of you keep it a secret from your friends and family?

It is soooo top secret that I have debt! My family is soooooooooo against it. Once I told a friend I had CC debt and now everytime I see her she mentions it... and LOL I know she has shared it with others! Oh well lessoned learned. I try to keep it quiet (even if it gives me heartburn), which is why I adore this board! I can "talk" about it!![]()
Great question... I can't wait to see where others stand!
Both sets of parents are encouraging my wife and I. My brother also seems to be debt too, however he has tons of equity in his home, no liquidity. I think every one knows about my bills "Oh well."
As per usual, my mother was definately into creating a plan for getting out of debt, but I was actually a little surprised when my fiance also decided to join. In general he wants to do things his own way when it comes to his personal debts. *shrug* In any case, I don't think any of us have really shared our debt with the outside world except for this forum.
Well, my debt is very private. Everyone that knows me knows that I just brought a house but other than that they do not know how my debt affects me. I feel like having debt is such a secret in my family that I do not talk about it with anyone. It is basically something to be ashamed of.
I prefer to handle my own debts. Infact, my parents don't have any knowledge that I owed $1000 bucks to my cousin. I don't want them to worry about me. Fortunately, I abled to pay it on my own without their help. That's what makes me feel good.
I owe my wife some money, but we don't owe anything on credit cards, mortgages or lines of credit.
It feels great to not have to pay interest on anything, after having a mortgage for a bunch of years.
You sounds cool Ricardo.
I think both of you are in conjugal property. So you can pay your debt anytime you want. ![]()
I am doing this on my own, but for me and my family.
I am the only one bringing in money so logically falls on me anyway.

It's important to me that we keep track of it and avoid spending on things that aren't worthwhile.
Sometimes she'll buy something for the home like a piece of furniture, and sometimes I'll buy something like the laptop a couple years ago. We're both self-employed now so it's not always easy to project our income amounts.
