I remember when I was growing up there was a lot of shame in filing for bankruptcy. I remember people saying some harsh words for people that had to file.

But I think things have changed these days. Many people have no choice but to file. Mortgage rates are very high, credit card interest rates are over the top and worse than anything else, prices are going up and jobs are very hard to come by.

At least when I was a kid when a person found a job chances were good that they would stay at that job until they retired. Now companies are firing people right and left for many reasons including being over 40. Things are disgraceful.

It's so hard to live these days and with creditors behind every door sometimes a person's only option is to declare bankruptcy.

Yeah, I've heard that people use to be thrown into something called debters prison in the old days, too. It's a good thing I wasn't born back then. big_smile

I think attitudes have changed about a lot of things these days that use to be  no-no's. Out of wedlock children use to have a rather negative name attached to them . Now it seems that about half of all births are from unmarried girls and no one blinks an eye.

I know a lot of people who have filed bankruptcy. Sometimes it's the only thing a person can do.

I wouldn;t say there was any shame in it because bankruptcy provides legitimate protection for those who need to get their debts under control
