I could'nt agree more.

Take my example as seen above. If you stripped all the medical away from me as if it never happened, I would be in great debt shape. My debt to earning ratio wouldn't look bad at all. And I did get to a time before the medical problems where I had credit card debt of less than $1000, on that I made monthly payments of $200 combined on the 2 cards I have. I had 2 car loans, both current, paid on time every time. I had very cheap auto insurance and some of the other benefits of being in a higher credit worthiness catagory. Things were looking real good.

Then came the thumping great medical bills. Now I have to pay deposits to get anything. I pay over 50% more for auto insurance. Its all a big mess.

I have never filed for bankruptcy, and I hope I never have to. The laws have changed ( I think) and I believe they are not in favor of the person filing bankruptcy.

Has anyone filed for Bankruptcy after the bankruptcy reform went through?  I'm just wondering if it's as hard now as some have made it out to be.

On a side note, I am reminded of an old coworker telling me about how he declared Bankruptcy a few years ago to get out of about $30k in credit cards.  He was lamenting that he didn't buy more with the cards before the filing was completed.  Classic case of abuse, no?

That's what I have a problem with.  I hear of people saying that so often...do they realize that someone is getting screwed out of money that they are owed?

Medical bills have a tendency to facilitate a number of bankruptcy proceedings. This is unfortunate as there really are no other options for people to seek care

Yeah I know, I think that it is a shame that people have so many medical bills that pile up. I think that the change of the economy is going to be a great thing because people are going to be able to have care which is something that we need in this country. I know that I have so many bills that I have been tackling for a long time now.

A lot of people take advantage of bankruptcy opportunities.  I hear that before you file bankruptcy you should get several credit cards and max them out so you can cancel that debt too.  I have never done this, but know of some that have.   mad

I agree that someone is losing money when you file but many of those places are credit card companies which charge you an arm and a leg just to use their cards. Even if you pay everything that you owe them they still charge you something. Credit card companies are the worse. They charge interest on top of interest and you will always be in debt to them. I don't feel bad about these companies.
